WAHROONGA 1999

The renovation was designed by Akira Homes' in-house multi award winning designer – Tony James Design. Construction was undertaken by Akira Homes’ master builders and carpenters.

This was an existing colonial style residence that had been very unsympathetically renovated. The entire rear of the house was removed and the front fascade was kept. Upon completion the entire home looked as if it was built at the same time with no obvious additions. The house was totally redesigned and in fact the beautiful solid timber kitchen was built in the original garage and study.

Under the existing wrought iron staircase a small bathroom was removed and this became the main walk-through to the rear of the house, instead of a virtual “rabbit warren”. The existing main bedroom had its ensuite and walk-in robe removed and a new bathroom and walk-in robe were built into the new roof area of the new downstairs rumpus room.

The construction also included landscaping, new swimming pool, gazebo and large three car garage.

This house won the 1999 MBA Housing In Excellence for Additions/Extensions up to $500,000.
